Basic Foods is a full year course designed with an emphasis on food and nutrition. The course covers the uses of kitchen equipment and preparation of foods in the basic food groups. Basic nutrition for a healthier lifestyle will be emphasized. Consumer decisions, skills related to food choices, and management of resources will also be covered. Kitchen lab experiences provide the opportunities for students to work with others and use critical thinking and problem solving skills. Food and work safety are stressed. Career and educational opportunities in the fields of food service and nutrition will be explored.
